BQ78350-R1: Set charging current not taken into consideration while charging

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350

Hello Sir,

I'm working on 76940 EVM that comes with a BQ78350 battery monitor chipset.

While using the BQ78350 for charging my 15S1P pack with a nominal capacity being 2.2Ah and charging current
set at 0.6 A what I'm observing is the charging current is not restricted by the battery monitor meaning. Even if
the source provides a current of 2A to the battery pack the pack charges with 2A when actually the charging current
set in the fast charging algorithm is just 0.6 A what could be the issue or the setting that can resolve this issue

Regards

  • Hi Mihir,

The BQ78350 is a gauge and does not control the charging conditions. It does recommend charging current and charging voltage based on the temperature. So a host can read these recommended values and control a charger. Or a smart charger may be able to read the recommended charging conditions as well.

    Best regards,

    Matt
