BQ77915: BQ7791506 - DSG not always enabled after installing charged batteries

Part Number: BQ77915

Hello- We are working with a four cell LiFePo battery pack and are using the BQ7791506. I've attached our schematics. For the most part it works fine, however, about half the time when we first install the batteries the DSG lines does not go high and the pack output will not enable. There isn't normally a load present. If we do plug the load in it doesn't change anything. If we plug the charger in then the DSG line does immediately go high and if we remove the charger the DSG line stays high. This works even if the battery pack is already fully charged.

Why would the DSG line not come up enabled (50% of the time) when first plugging in batteries if the batteries are fully charged? Is there an order in which the cells should be inserted into the pack?

  • Hi Dave,

Apologies for the late reply! There is a correct order in which you need to connect the cells. Unless "random cell connection" is specified in the datasheet, we recommend connecting the cells from GND up (GND, VC0, VC1, etc). It is possible that this is causing a fault and showing the behavior you described.
