LM5069: LM5069 or TPS2493, which one is the best fit for our Hotswap application?

Hi Expert,

We are desiging 48V power supply system. Becuase the backed DC/DC is using nonisolated solution, so the hot swap protection is very important. The current requirement is no more than 4A. Checking the TI series, the LM5069 and TPS2493 are good candidates with similar features. The good of LM5069 is small package, the good of TPS2493 is that it's relatively new generation. From reliability point of view, which one is best fit? We prefer LM5069 because it's small, but reliability is key factor.

Hi Rakesh,

Thanks for quick response. TPS1663 integrates FET, it's ideal. But the voltage is a little bit low for our application, our battery system voltage will be in range 44-55V, motor operation will generate some overshoot and spike, so 60V is too low. If it's 80V or 100V, it will be ideal.

Ok. Understood.

Both device architectures are slightly different but functionally equivalent. LM5069 provides faster response for overload/short circuit fault than TPS249x devices which helps to have more SOA design margin for a given hot-swap MOSFET. However, TPS249x would be preferred choice for applications where higher transient immunity (slower response avoids triggering the circuit breaker for marginal overloads) is needed.

From reliability point of view, I don’t see any difference between them

For more SOA, we decide to use LM5069 auto-retry version. Attached is MOSFET we will use, if possible, please help to check also.
