UCC28C44: Current mode conrol required in psr configuration? And Daramtic V drop on SEC Winding

Part Number: UCC28C44

Evaluating UCC28C44 as a PSR Flyback Controller

Have some questions

I did not use the current mode control (no current sense resistor) to be coherent with an other source for flyback controller used and the regulation is not as expected. I want to be sure that the reason is not this choice. Can you tell me if this current mode control is required in PSR configuration ? Voltage mode control is approached in UCC28C44 datasheet but not in the application note that you sent to me. I just want to be sure that is possible.

The problem I face here is a dramatic voltage drop on SEC winding when the current demand increase. I know that controller in PSR configuration has no possibility to see SEC winding output voltage so this voltage drop cannot be regulated by the controller in my case but is it possible if the current sense mode is used ? Is the choice of voltage mode control the origin of the problem ?

Thank you for your help

  • Hi

It is possible to use the UCC28C44 in voltage mode and this is described the datasheet.

I sounds like you are having difficulty getting good output voltage regulation by regulating from a primary side winding?

The choice between voltage mode and current mode control will not impacted the output voltage regulation.

The output voltage regulation depends on coupling between the secondary winding and the primary side auxiliary winding which is a function of the transformer construction.

  • Hi,

That was my first idea but I wanted to be sure that there was no other influence.

    Thanks for reply,
    Best regards,
