BQ40Z60: not waking up anymore

Expert 4790 points
Part Number: BQ40Z60

To use as little as power as possible BQ40Z60 is being put in time based shutdown.

Unfortunately they have a situation where it is not waking up anymore

According to Technical Rerference Manual (page 73) device wakes up under following conditions:

" The device returns to NORMAL mode when voltage at ACP pin > V STARTUP. "

Based on datasheet (page 5) Vstart-up is max. 2.45V.

They have measured the pin directly and the voltage is far higher, around 3V but BQ isn`t waking up.

They also see some temperature dependency with that problem

  • Hello Andreas,

Can you provide more information on the fault? Do you have scope captures you can share?

What was the temperature dependency relationship?

If the gauge is having a hard time starting up it may be browning out from current draw, are you able to share a schematic as well?

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt,

any particular scope pictures you are looking for? BQ doesn`t wake up from shutdown anymore.

I will provide schematics in a separate email.

    Regards

    Andreas

  • Hello Andreas,

I would capture the PBI and ACP pins to make sure the correct voltages are being applied to wake up the gauge. If there any condition that happened that caused this to start happening? it was working but then stopped working?

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
