WEBENCH® Tools/TPS61089: TPS61089,Boost

Part Number: TPS61089
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS82130

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

I design the TPS61089 boost module by the WEBENCH® Tools. The input is 5V/5A and the output is 12V/2A,but  actual measured the output voltage is about 6V .The Vref(FB Pin)is 0.6V and the formula is as follows, According to the formula, Vref should be 1.2.The load is a buck module TPS82130.The TPS82130 is as follow.

  • Dear Sir,

5V/5A is too weak for 12V/2A output. If the input current capability increase from 5A to 6-7A, then the things will be gets better.

For 5V/5A input, the maximum output capability is around 12V/1.7A

  • Dear Sir,

The boost module doesn't work normally. The power supply I used can output 7a, but the output of the module is only 6V, and the current displayed by the power supply is only 200mA.When the load is removed, it can output 12V. When the load is connected, it does not work normally, but the current value of the power supply is also very small, so there is no thermal protection and over-voltage protection of the module, and it is not the cause of insufficient supply current

  • Dear Sir,

Please check the soldering of the IC, like the Ilimit pin, COMP pin.

It they are well connected,  there's an anti-paralleled diode from the GND to each pin.

  • I think the tps61089 module can't be started at the beginning because the load is capacitive. At present, the module can operate normally under the load of pure resistance. Is there a suitable starting circuit, such as increasing the starting capacitance and so on

  • I think it is because of the big inrush current at CC mode. With pure resistive load, the inrush current from the input side will be lower.
