TPS61025: Capacitance of output capacitor

Part Number: TPS61025

Dear TI Team

I would like to ask about capacitance of output capacitor.

Our customers are considering using it under the following conditions, and when Cmin was calculated using the following Cmin formula, Cmin was calculated to be approximately 5.3 μF (switching frequency 480 kHz(min), ΔV=10 mV If)
・VBAT=0.9V
・Vout=3.3V
・Iout=35mA

Therefore, Cout = 22μF is being considered in consideration of the margin, but 47 to 100μF is described as the recommended value in the data sheet.
Is there any problem with using Cout = 22μF under the above conditions?

Best Regards,

Y.Ottey

  • Hi Ottey:

ΔV = 10mV is critical for a switching power. You should also consider the voltage ripple caused by ESL, ESR. And I afraid the converter may enter into power same mode PFM, you should disable it which will bring little larger ripple.

If you don't have such requirements, it's ok to use 22uF, as your load is light.
