Hi there,
I just read the datasheet of TPS56120x, it seems like TPS56120x has no OVP function.
I want to make sure if TPS56120x have OVP function or not.
Thanks

Hi,
TPS561201 has 'automatic' OVP function which means when output voltage goes high, both high side and low side will stop switch to let Vout drop automatically, but no other special behavior to protect it.
Hope it helps.
Hi Vincent,
Then, Is there any buck regulator IC without OVP function? I want to achieve OVP by an external MCU control in my design.
Thank you!
Hi,
What do you mean use external MCU to achieve OVP? Could you introduce more details?
Hi Vincent,
I want to monitor the buck regulator output voltage by an external MCU, and if the output voltage is higher than the threshold I set, MCU will send a signal to shut down the buck regulator. I want to set my OVP threshold be above 125% of the regular output, however, I've found that in the most of TI's buck regulators, the OVP threshold is below 125% or just equal to 125% of Vref (I want the threshold be higher than 125%). Due to that, I am wondering if there is a buck regulator which has no OVP function or the OVP threshold is higher than 125% of Vref.
Thanks!
Hi,
TPS561201 don't have 125% threhold OVP function in it. No matter it's 110% or 130%, device just don't switch and waiting the voltage to drop down(but the buck is still active), something like self-regulated.
Other converters as I know, when 120% threhold happen, device will turn on Low side to accelate Vout to drop.
