BQ76PL455A-Q1: Power off without a sleep message.

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1

Hello, I want to turn off the BQ externally, one of the options is to feed VP externally. but finding 5.1V-5.5V instead of 5V is a bit more complicated in my design. I would like to know if there is another way to put the chip in shutdown without asking for it, i.e. removing the power source. For example to feed the top pin and the NPN with 12V from a remote shutdown power source while the battery pack reaches 62V in its highest cell (attached image). I don't know if you can have a different voltage on TOP and VSENSE16 pins. If it is not possible I would like to know how TI proposes to turn off the chip when the power is cut in the uC that communicates with the BQ. In other designs it has happened to us that the uC was turned off and did not give time to turn off the BQ leaving it on for a long period of time and even discharging the battery .

  • Hi User,

We would not recommend the proposal to have separate VTOP and VSENSE16. Instead we would propose to use the communications timeout feature to send the device to shutdown in the event of no communications for X amount of time depending on your desired setting.

    Regards,

    Taylor
