UCC256404: power consumption at low output power

Part Number: UCC256404
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28180, UCC256403, TIDA-010081, UCD3138

Hi Team,

customer has 1kW  AC/DC PFC+LLC requirement.

1. I see we have reference using UCC28180+UCC256403/4,  can it achieve 0.3W Pin, 0.1W Pout, 0.48W Pin, 0.24W Pout?

I see UCC25640x has burst mode but UCC28180 doesn't have.

2. Is there PFC controller support burst and CCM, and 1kW application?

From website, I do not see it.

3. Is there discrete circuit that can achieve PG function?  customer need power good signal before secondary side fully ramp up.

  • Hello,

I believe that you are talking about the tida-010081 reference design that uses the UCC28180 and the UCC256403.

Most power supplies are specified for standby power and 10% to 100% load.  So there will not be any efficiency data available for the low output power requirements of less than 0.48W for a 1 kW design.   This design  would have a standby power of less than 500 mW to meet CoC and DoE standards.

I reviewed the HVC portfolio and there does not appear to be a mixed signal analog PFC controller that has a burst mode function.

You might be able to accomplish burst mode PFC with the UCC3138 digital PWM  controller.  There are many reference designs for this device involving PFC design.

If you decide to use the UCD3138 in a PFC/LLC application with program ability please re post your question with UCD3138 in the title so the appropriate applications engineer can help answer your questions.

    Regards,

    Mike
