UCC256404: Ucc256404

Part Number: UCC256404
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28064A, UCC28061, UCC25600, , UCC256302, UCC256403

hello,

I have to design a smps for audio. I look at ti referance design sloy293c and it uses UCC28061, a dual-phase, interleaved, transition mode PFC controller and UCC25600 resonant LLC converter but the design is a little bit outdated. So i wat to give a chance to  UCC28064A for PFC and UCC256404 for LLC. I have doubs about UCC256404, hifi audio is not mentioned in the applications list in the datasheet and maybe new functions like burst and other could have negative effect on audio. So could you please give me some comments and suggestions.

  • Hi,

We have seen some customers use the UCC25640x series for premium audio applications. The UCC256404 burst mode includes soft on and soft off to minimize audible noise in burst mode. Just for reference, we have a somewhat newer reference design for Audio for AC direct to LLC with UCC256302 here:https://www.ti.com/tool/PMP40379. UCC25640x is an upgraded next-gen of the UCC25630x series.

Some audio supplies like to take advantage of burst mode if they do not plan to include a housekeeping supply (these tend to be lower in power level, ~250W or so). Higher power level supplies for audio tend to favor using a housekeeping supply + UCC256403 and include circuitry to allow the overall system to turn on and off the LLC. In this scenario, burst mode is typically not used.

Please let me know if this answers your questions.

    Best Regards,

    Ben Lough
