BQ24773: BQ24773 Losing adapter detection after some time, ACOK not working correctly

Hello TI,

               We are using BQ24773 for 1 cell charging by using 5V/4A input adapter and 5Ah lithium Ion battery, Load is Raspberry PI  

We are facing issues on ACOK, when adapter is connect as per the Charging IC ACOK is provided 3V3, ACOK pin is Pull high as per the reference design by using 10K & 3V3 

1. ACOK signal is not stable, when adapter connected we are expecting stable ACOK Output, is it right ...?If yes, how to stable it ..?
2. when load is connected and system is running properly with BQ24773 configuration suddenly system stop after some time charging battery and started discharging, when replace the input adapter it started charging again ..? 
3. How to get stable ACOK Output, based on that we configure the system 
4. How to identify battery is charging or not, there was any provision across the BQ24773 to identify it ..?

  • Hi Rahul,

    1) and 3) Yes, ACOK should be stable at the pull-up rail voltage when a valid adapter is connected. Figure 24 in the datasheet shows an example of this.

    Here are the conditions that must be met in order to pull ACOK high. Can you please capture a single waveform showing ACOK, ACDET, VCC, and BAT so that we can verify whether or not these conditions have been met?

    2) If the BQ24773 was successfully charging the battery before, then there must be some triggering event which caused charging to stop. Can you provide more details about this situation?

    4) The BQ24773 does not have a charge status register to indicate whether or not the battery is currently being charged.

    The BQ24773 is often used in a system with a battery gauge, which can provide information such as the battery voltage, charge current, SoC (state of charge), and more. If your system does not include a gauge, then you can monitor the IBAT pin in order to determine whether or not the battery is being charged.
