TPS92641: Diode of boost can be connected SW node instead Vcc pin

Part Number: TPS92641

Hello,

My customer is concerning to reduce power consumption of the device.

Question

1. Is it possible to connect the SW node to diode of boot (D-boot) instead of Vcc pin?

If this is OK, we have additional question.

2. Is it OK if voltage for D-boot is less than 15V?  It will be 13V+/-3%.

3. If VIN < 13V, is it problem?

4. Can Vcc pin be floating?

5. If you have any concern about this, please let me know.

Best regards,

Katsu

  • Hello Katsu,

    1)  This should be okay.

    2)  The external voltage should be 8.5V maximum, the same as VCC.  It can be lower but has to be above boot UVLO and it needs enough voltage to drive the MOSFET chosen.

    3)  No since external Vccext should be 8.5V maximum

    4)  It still needs the recommended capacitor on the Vcc pin

    5)  Vccext needs to have a ceramic capacitor value 10X the boot capacitor value to prevent voltage droop when boot charges.

    Best Regards,
