TPS659037: Working with AM572x in a battery situation

Part Number: TPS659037

Hi all,

I'm interested in creating a niche wearable/PDA-style product, and am currently attempting to identify a Linux-compatible CPU range such as the AM572x series, as being powerful, with a GPU, USB, PCIe and keypad I/O, etc. however, it obviously requires the TPS659037 PMIC. Are there any options for running the PMIC from a battery? It seems like it'd be possible to install another lithium ion battery charger PMIC between the USB power and the TPS659037, but having the two separate PMICs seems like it may be an issue in terms of overall power management.

Thanks for any advice!

  • Hi Collin,

I have not seen this device used in this way before but that does not mean it would not be possible. From a PMIC perspective, as long as the input power to the device is not being operated outside of the absolute max found in the datasheet and the battery charger is able to supply the PMIC while charging the battery there should not be any issue. Basically as long as the PMIC is operated within the required ranges specified in the datasheet and is able to be supplied continuously when connecting and disconnecting to the charging cable, there should not be an issue with using this PMIC in a battery set up. The main difficulty, in my opinion, will be ensuring the PMIC is constantly supplied when adding and removing the charger, although I have not done any sort of design like this in the past.

    Best regards,
