Hello,
i use a bq25886 charger in on of my projects. Everything works as intended, only i got a little summer-day-problem.
The PCB with the charger and the batteries are located in a little housing. While charging the batteries (with ~ 900 mA) the inner housing temperature will rise ~12 °C above the ambient temperature. And with the inner temperature the battery temperature too. Because i can charge lithium-ion batteries only up to 45 °C my max ambient temperature is 33 °C.
summarized: Charging wont work on hot summer days.
To get around this problem i can reduce the heat generation at high temperatures. The charger itself is not able to reduce the current at high temperatur. But maybe i can do the following:
When the inner housing temperatur is above 40 °C i can modify ILIM or ICHGSET with appropriate resistor/nFET combination parallel to the "normel" resistor for a lower current limit.
My question is:
Is it a problem for the charger if i change the resitor at ILIM or ICHGSET while charging?
