TPS2544: Will USB device be damaged when D+/D- is short for DCP mode?

Part Number: TPS2544

Hello expert,

My customer want to know if USB device will be damaged when D+/D- is short in DCP mode. As I know, there should be no current when D+/D- is short and no signal is transmitting. But customer would like to check if there is any damage on this operation? Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Ann Lien

  • Hi Ann,

No there should be no damage on these pins as the portable devices should expect this occur when connected to a dedicated charger.

Also, there is a 100 ohm resistor used to connect D+ to D- while in DCP mode, so they are not being shorted directly from one another
