BQ76PL455A-Q1: Battery monitoring cells only, no shunt or charge/discharge FETs.

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76PL455A

Hello,

I am looking for something that will work with up to 200A discharge, 20A charge. I think the discharge current may be too high for a discharge FET or shunt. Will a BMS work just to monitor and balance cell voltages without the discharge and charge FETs or shunt resistors connected. I am now looking into bq76PL455A-Q1 due to its higher temperature and automotive rating.

Thank you,

Cameron

  • Hi Cameron,

Yes the bq76pl455a and bq79606a parts are monitors/protectors/balancers connected and powered directly off the battery pack for high series cell count so the pack discharge/charge paths for switching are separate from these parts if you need to design for higher current charge/discharge with other components external to our device. Keep in mind to design considerations for thermal/ transient protections as well. Take a look at the datasheets for these parts and post a new thread if any other questions come up!

    Regards,

    Taylor
