BQ40Z50: happened OC Alert

Part Number: BQ40Z50

Dear Sir,

When Charing, it happened OC alert. it seems RemainingCapacity() < FullChargeCapacity() is correct.

what is Internal Charge counter? if OC:Threshold is change. it is OK? There is side impact?

could you let me know any comment about this issue.

  • Hello Dexter,

The internal charge counter counts the charge after the SOC is 100%. You can modify the OC threshold to match your application needs. You should need both conditions to happen to trigger the OC safety, does this happen every cycle? Or is it this one time?

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Dear Wyatt,

    It happen every cycle.

I have some questions as below.

    1. if OC TRIP is disable, There are any side effect?

    2. if SOC is 100%, internal charge counter is 1? or increase count of sum?

    3. RemainingCapacity() < FullChargeCapacity() mean is TrueRemQ < TrueFullChgQ in the log file? correct?

    4. what are different TrueFullChgQ and TrueFullChgE ?

  • Hello Dexter,

That's strange, can you upload the R3 firmware to see if this still occurs? If the error still happens with the R3 it may be a firmware bug we need to fix.

If the OC is disabled you could over charge the battery if there's no other protections enabled to stop it.

The counter is counting the charge passed after 100% SOC.

The parameters stated in the TRM is what the gauge will compare with. the True values are without filtering/other changes by the gauges configuration.

They are in different units, you can also check the TRM to see the units. Q is mAh and E is cWh.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
