TPS2121: Intended reverse current to achieve USB OTG

Part Number: TPS2121
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25611DHi Team,

Does TPS2121 can handle an intended reverse current flow from OUT to IN1 to achieve USB OTG? If it's possible, the current from OUT must be flowing into IN1(USB) but not flowing to IN2(AC adapter). Normally USB charger and AC adapter can be connected for each input on TPS2121 at he same time thanks to TPS2121. The OUT of TPS2121 is connected to the battery charging IC with OTG function such as BQ25611D.

Regards,
Kazuto
  • Kazuto-san,

Unfortunately TPS2121 cannot support USB OTG due to the reverse current protection feature, it would not be able to provide sufficient current before blocking the reverse charging.

A possible alternative is to mux  the power to the host with 2 diescrete load switches which have sufficient reverse current current capability for OTG, or add an antiparallel load switch so that it is function as forward conduction when USB OTG is desired.

I hope this helped answer your question, if you have any other questions on this please let me know.

    Best
