BQ25616: What is the blinking duty cycle of the LED during fault condition?

Part Number: BQ25616
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25790, BQ25790EVM

If there is any fault condition the BQ25616 as well as the BQ25790 is blinking with a frequency of 1Hz. What is the pulse width and the duty cycle of that blinking? It seems that the pulse is short and clearly visible for the user.

Regards,
Patrick

  • Patrick,

When the STAT pin blinks at 1Hz because of fault conditions, it goes 1 second high then 1 second low repetitively.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hi Ning,

    Thank you for your answer.

On my BQ25790EVM I did measure the frequency of the STAT pin and it is 0.716Hz. What is the tolerance of this 1 Hz blinking signal?

We would like to use the BQ25790 to show the status of the battery charger in off state and our main processor should show the device status in on state. That means that both frequencies should be the same and we need to implement the same blinking on the main processor.

    Regards,

    Patrick

  • Patrick,

We will get back to you.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hi Patrick,

Unfortunately, we do not test the frequency of the STAT blinking in production.  It is tied to an internal clock which varies quite a bit over input voltage, operating mode (battery only, OTG or VBUS) and temperature.  Just to confirm, you are seeing a fault and not seeing the charger cycle in and out of charge state because no battery is present?

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

I think the BQ25790 did detect a "HOT" battery and showed the STAT blinking.
