BQ77915: 13 Series Schematic

Part Number: BQ77915
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ77905

Hello, Kindly help me by providing a custom solution for a battery of 13Series using the BQ77915. Will only be needing a schematic.

thanks a lot!

  • Hi Nishchay,

We don't have a 13 cell schematic available.  The application note https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slua906 and the BQ77915 data sheet application sections 9.3.13 and 10.1.1 should be helpful is setting up a schematic in the design tool of your choice.

  • That should solve the issue, im assuming, also do you recommend using external mosfet balancing or just using capacitors between the series?

continues current for my application is >80A

  • Hi Nishchay,

Cell balancing really depends more on the amount of mismatch which develops in the system.  If the battery is used and charged frequently it will have less time to accumulate mismatch more time to balance than a battery which is used and charged infrequently.  You may want higher balance current (the external FETs) on a seldom used system.  You may also want to consider matching the load better between the devices, the FET drive on the bottom device will often provide more DC load on those cells than the stacking interface provides on the cells for the upper device.  The stacking application note for the BQ77905 has a description of matching loads which is more important there since the BQ77905 does not have balancing and is always on.  The BQ77915 has the hibernate mode which will reduce the current and turn off the loads so they do not produce imbalance when hibernated. So you do have several options depending on how your system will be used and the features you support.
