BQ2980EVM-883: FETs are not being turned on.

Part Number: BQ2980EVM-883

Hi,

I am using the bq2980evm dev board to test prior to designing it in.  I have a 135mAh lithium ion battery connected to Bat-/+ terminals.  The battery is charged to 3.8volts.  I have a load of 35mA connected to pack-/+ terminals.  I also have CTR pin pulled to ground.  I expect to see 3.8 volts on the pack-/+ terminals but I am seeing 0Volts.  The FETs are not being turned on. G_Chg and G_Dsg is at 0volts.  Why aren't the FETs being turned on?

Cheers,

Bruce

  • Hi Bruce,

When dealing with an EVM, it is always good practice to run through the quick start sequence as described in the user guide. This familiarizes you with the EVM, as well as testing the configuration out. It is an easy way to troubleshoot. I'd like to refer you to step 5 of this EVM's quick start sequence. If you simply connect the BAT pins, the device will still be in SHUTDOWN mode. To wake up the device, you can either connect a "charger" (voltage on PACK pins), or simply short VDD to the PACK pin. The your device will enter normal mode and be ready to go.

  • Thanks for your support.  This resolved my issue.
