battery charger recommendation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS56339, BQ25790, BQ25792

can someone recommend a battery charger to add to an existing smart light/speaker design. the battery is intended as a mini ups for the processor

the power system is currently as follows

            ----------------------                            ----------------------
            |                            |                            |                            |
48v-----|  LM5145RGYR   | ------20v----------|     TPS56339      |-----5v

            ----------------------                      |     ----------------------
                                                               |
                                                               |
                                                               |
                                                               |     ----------------------
                                                               |      |                            |
                                                               -----|     TPS56339      |-----3.3V

hello

the system leds are powered from the 48v before the LM5145RGYR and shutoff off if the power is cut.
the 48V is supplied from "mains" via a self contained module

the processor is powered of the 5v rail consuming a max of 3A @5V
and other things on the 3.3v rail consuming <3A

i am thinking of inserting a battery charger between the LM5145RGYR  and the pair of TPS56339

ive been looking at the BQ25790 and BQ25792 but am unsure about determining the sys current ratings for those or other devices

the device would want an i2c bus connection but ideally autonomous by default

thx

  • Hi,

    For BQ25792 and BQ25790

The Sys current depends on multiple different conditions, The recommended max ISW output current can be 5A - IBAT(charging current) while charging the battery. Additionally, the discharge current, the BATFET can handle is up to 6A continuous current (from BAT to SYS).

This charger is NVDC architecture, please refer to section 8.3.7.1 and 8.3.7.2 of BQ25792 Datasheet.
