LM5170-Q1: Current superimpose

Part Number: LM5170-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5170

Hi all,

Can you tell me how to set each pin of LM5170-Q1 in order to add the output current of multiphase-setupped LM5170-Q1? If there is a signal at SYNCIN, does the device automatically acts as slave? In that case, does it need only one feedback or does each LM5170-Q1 need feedback?

Regards,
RYO

  • Hello RYO,

With feedback you mean OVPA and OVPB, right?

  • Hi ROY,

Thanks for reaching out with your question and for considering the LM5170 in your design.

Regarding the first question about adding the output currents are you talking about the IOUTA and IOUTB pins that monitor the current for each phase or are you referring to the high currents of the power train?

There is not a dedicated slave mode in the LM5170. When the ISETA pins of more than one device are tied together the current should be split evenly between the active phases as the LM5170 implements average current mode control. The ISETA pin voltage is typically the output of the external voltage loop error amplifier. Only one error amplifier is needed for the voltage loop control. Please take a look at the LM5170 EVM for more detials. The SYNCIN signal should be used to set the phase of the device so that all the phases are interleaved.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or feel free to reach out directly to me over email.

    Thanks,

    Garrett

  • Hi Garrett,

Thanks. I wanted to know there is a dedicated slave mode in this device. The answer was okay.
