BQ40Z50-R1: BQ40Z50-R1

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1

HI

I am using BQ40z50-r1 in my design.

In the IC we have charge FET and Discharge FET.(Part Number-CSD17308Q3).

During the charging of the battery whether both the FET will be in conduction or only the charge FET will be in conduction.

The current during the charging the will be flowing through the diode of discharge FET and will be in off state.

Likewise the vice versa will be happening during the discharging process.

  • Hi Anandan,

The Bq40Z50-R1 has a FET body diode protection feature. I do not see it described in the device documentation, but it usually works in this way for most TI gauges:

If the CHG FET is off and the gauge detects discharge current ≥ Dsg Current Threshold, then the CHG FET is turned on to protect CHG FET body diode. The CHG FET is turned back off once discharge current is removed. If the DSG FET is off and the gauge detects charge current ≥ Chg Current Threshold, then the DSG FET is turned on to protect the DSG FET body diode. The DSG FET is turned back off once charge current is removed. Body diode protection is always active.

    Best regards,

    Matt
