Hi,

I've been looking for a solution to add cell balancing to 4S1P LiPo battery charger, based on BQ25710.

I was looking around, and found battery gauge IC BQ40Z50-R2 which might help. However I do have some doubts:

- BQ25710 SMBUS registers doesn't seem to be compatible with those in gauge specifications: Is it possible to control BQ25710 with BQ40Z50-R2 gauge and talk to each other?

- Even if not compliant, is it still possible to use BQ40Z50-R2 just to perform cell balancing?

    Hi Pablo,

    The BQ40Z50-R2 is compatible with smart charging ICs and a charging IC can read the recommended charging voltage and current from the BQ40Z50-R2. 

    If you are using the BQ40Z50-R2 only for the cell balancing feature, a much simpler option might be to use the BQ77915 (battery protector with cell balancing). If you also like the gauging feature, the BQ40Z50-R2 is a very good choice.
