TPS6594-Q1: GPIO_7 ESM question. TPS659413 'Master' NVM defaults

Part Number: TPS6594-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA4VM, , DRA829V

PMIC folks - I am asking this for my customer.

In the "User's Guide for Powering DRA829V and TDA4VM with the TPS6594-Q1 PMICs",  SLVUBR0 - DECEMBER 2019, Page 15:

GPIO7_CONF: states that the Master (TPS659413) is configured as an OD input with an internal pull-down enabled, with the GPIO7_SEL = nERR_MCU.

And in the TPS6594-Q1 datasheet, page 8, has the GPIO7 recommendation for 'CONNECTION IF NOT USED' for "Alternative function: nERR_MCU, which is the system error count down input signal from the MCU (Active Low)" as FLOAT.

Question:

The datasheet shows (above) to leave GPIO7 floating is not used, that is what we have. Will the internal PD indicate to the TPS659413 that the MCU has an error, and if so should we add a PU?

  • Mark,

The internal pull-down is okay. The ESM cannot be activated until software from the processor configures and then enables the ESM monitor. We generally recommend grounding inputs, or using the internal pulldown to keep the input low if unused.

Also, after startup, you can change the configuration of the GPIO through I2C to have a different function if you prefer to use it for something else in the system.

    Thanks,

    Nastasha
