PTN78060W Hardware Troubleshooting

My customer wants to know if you can set up external components using the inhibit line to stretch the internal soft start when power is applied. The customer wants to reduce the inrush current caused by capacitive loading.

Is it possible to pre-bias the output so that the external capacitive components are precharged before the input voltage is applied to the device thereby reducing transients when it turns on?

  • The PTN78060 has a normal soft in-rush current duration of 1A per 15msec when powered up or 10 msec on the output bus. .  By adding a 2.2uf ceramic capacitor on  the inhibit pin, the in-rush current duration is decreased  to about 1A in 30msec. the module had a 1000uF capacitor on the output bus.
