Hi Team,

We've received an inquiry from a customer for a battery charger and powerpath controller for RRC-2024 Li-Ion battery which has built-in BQ4050 fuel gauge. The battery configuration is 4S3P. The customer needs a charger that can communicate with the battery without the presence of a host controller. He needs a similar device to LT1760 which has a "Smart Battery System Manager" feature.

Do we have a similar device?

Hey Danilo,

Currently we have BQ25792 which is an integrated buck-boost charger and also BQ24610 standalone buck controller that could operate without a host to charge 4S3P battery.

Hi,

none of these controllers uses SMB to talk to the battery. Any communication with the battery have to be performed by the host.

Does TI have any controller that actually talks to the battery and a host ?

Does TI have an application example with a charge controller and microprocessor combo that handles the charging of any smart battery by itself.

Depending on what cells are used the battery voltage might be different.

BQ24725A implements SMBus communication protocol to talk to the smart battery or host.
