BQ40Z50: BQ40z50 Battery Pack

Part Number: BQ40Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hi

Currently i am working with bq40z50 battery pack. l have some question related with bq40z50

1. when we attach a fresh battery to bq40z50, how it will understand current battery voltage and capacity?

2. what are the initial configuration required for bq40z50?

3. how the bqstudio understand the capacity left in the battery?

4. what are different parameters need to check, and also what is the reference value for the parameter?

5. how the columb counter in bq40z50 works while charging and discharging?

guys help me out.

  • Hello,

Because the bq40z50 is a pack side gauge it isn't designed to be have a new battery inserted, if you do insert a new battery you will need to reset some of the values stored from the previous battery.

Most of the initial setup for the gauge is explained in the EVM users guide: www.ti.com/.../sluuav7b.pdf

I'm not sure what you mean, bqStudio uses SMBUS communication to get the information from the gauge, the calculations for capacity are done on the gauge.

The parameters you set in dataflash depend on your application.

The gauge measures current flow using a small sense resistor and sigma-delta ADC design, it is very good at averaging current.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
