BQ24610: Battery manager / Fuel gauge for BQ24610

Part Number: BQ24610
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z80, BQ34110

Hi Team,

Do you have any suggestions for the customer request for Battery manager / Fuel gauge for BQ24610 (4-6 cells)?
The customer needs to use the separate charge and discharge return paths.

Thanks,

Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

I think the BQ40Z80 may be the best fit from your description. It supports up to 6 cells and has a FET Options[PARALLEL_FETS] bit that can be set for separate charge and discharge paths.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hello Matt,

Apologies for the late update as I discuss this solution with our customer.
I got this response from our customer after he reviews the BQ40Z80:

I will just paste the response so that I will not miss any information:
"I had looked at the BQ40Z80 as a possible solution but didn’t see a reference schematic in the datasheet for the separate charge and discharge paths option. Since I told you what part I’m currently using I have no issue using it as my example. ( Here’s the link: www.renesas.com/.../ISL94208.html )

I just want to sanity check that I can make separate charge and discharge paths as shown in the ISL94208’s datasheet with the BQ40Z80. Please reference the attached picture. This topology wasn’t shown in the TI datasheet nor does it look like it’s implemented in the eval board. However, because of the nature of this design the two parallel paths are required. If the TI part supports this topology this may be a change the company wants to make.

I would much rather use a TI part in this application which, interestingly, makes TI the supplier for nearly every IC in this design."

Please let me know your inputs.

    Regards,

    Jonathan

  • Hello Jonathan,

Please look at the bq34110 for your application.

There will be an upgrade for the bq40z80 coming later.

    Thanks
