BQ294582: External FET connections

Part Number: BQ294582

Hello,

As per the product datasheet, In an overvoltage scenario the external FET shall turn ON shorting the fuse to ground, which allows the battery or charger power to blow the fuse. But can we use the FET to disconnect the battery pack from the Load/Charger in case of overvoltage condition.

Is the Fuse necessary?

Regards,

Shivani Ghorpade

  • Hi Shivani,

The fuse is simply a suggested design, so if you would like to use another configuration, that is up to you. We chose the fuse because it is a more permanent protection circuit.

The device will change the OUT pin from a low output to a high output when there is a fault, and you can design the surrounding circuitry to handle that in whatever way you want.
