PFA. I want to ask in its datasheet in hardware design, some of the capacitors rating are not mentioned and is written as CDNP. what does it mean?

Like in the attachment for C12,C13,C14 if is written as CDNP.

And I want to attach 2 devices in series for 12 cells. what should be the recommended circuit for this?

Hi Zeeshan,

"DNP" stands for "Do Not Populate." It's used as a way to include a footprint in the board layout for a component that may or may not be used later. Because they are labeled as "DNP," when the board is assembled these capacitors will not be populated. They are shown here because they may be useful for some applications of the GPAI pins, but they are not used in this application. If the GPAI pins are not used they should be tied to VSS, which is what is done in this circuit through R4 and R5.

May I ask why you are using the BQ76PL536A-Q1 instead of the BQ79606A-Q1? The 606 is a later generation device and we have many more resources for designing with this device. It is also 6 channels.

There is no special reason for using BQ76PL536A-Q1. I just found that device so I decide to use it.

I have one more question how can I use CAN BUS interface for communicating this device with the micro controller.

Hi Zeeshan,

I would recommend using the BQ79606A-Q1.

It's not possible to communicate with the BQ76PL536A-Q1 via CAN. You must use SPI to communicate between the device and the MCU.

Arduino and BQ76PL536A-Q1. Can i use the optocoupler for this propose?

Hi Zeeshan,

We have not recommended an optocoupler with this device before. However, as long as the signals that the BQ76PL536A sees look normal, you should be able to use it. You'll need to use the datasheet to verify that the signals are within the normal range.

I have a question for bq76PL536A-Q. The Mosfet use in this schematic is not available in my area. Can i use some other mosfet? Kindly guide me along with the rating of mosfet.

Hi Zeeshan,

You can certainly use a different MOSFET, and I recommend using the MOSFETs in the schematic to guide your selection of an alternate part. Select balancing MOSFETs according section 8.2.2 of the datasheet.

Hi Zeeshan,

Please understand that we do not typically answer E2E questions on weekends. If you ask a question over the weekend, we will make sure that we answer it the following Monday (CST).

You do need to use the SDO_H, SDI_H, SCLK_H, and CS_H pins to communicate with the BQ76PL536A-Q1 from your MCU. You do not need to use SDO_S, SDI_S, SCLK_S, CS_S, SDO_N, SDI_N, CS_N, nor SCLK_N pins to communicate with the MCU. These are only used for communication with other BQ76PL536A-Q1 devices.
