BQ34Z950: Termination current for the battery

Part Number: BQ34Z950

Dear TI,

I have a battery with 5200mAh nominal capacity spec. I set the charger termination current to C/20 (260mA) and the battery capacity I get just around 5130mAh. Then I reduced the charger termination current to C/40 (130mA) and the battery capacity able to achieved >5200mAh. What are the side effects to the battery if I reduce the charger termination current?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Fariz

  • Hello Fariz,

Usually the final charge current for the battery to be fully charged safely is given in the battery manufacturer data sheet, by going over this amount you could decrease the batteries lifetime or other issues. We recommend following the battery manufacturers values. Some of the time batteries will be cycled between 0% and 90% of their true design capacity so they will last for more cycles.

    Sincerely,
