LM2674: What is purpose of current limit ICL

Part Number: LM2674

In the Datasheet it is mentioned that current limit (ICL) is 0.575A(min) and 1.25A(Max). Since the Chip is rated at 500mA Load current. what will happen if we load it until 1.2A.

what will be the temperature rise with respect to Load current.

  • Hello Ramesh,

This is IC parameter ICL, is determined by the sensed peak inductor current.

The peak inductor current is combination of DC load current and half the inductor ripple. Inductor ripple follows theoretical buck converter equation.

Device will follow EC specifications across rated junction rating. More power = more loss. You will not necessarily heat up more as you are approaching current limit.
