BQ27531-G1: Remaining capacity just after battery is inserted

Part Number: BQ27531-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24193

Hi,

Could you please give me advice for the accuracy of  measuring remaining cap and FC just after battery is inserted?

My customer found the bq27531-g1 sometimes detect 100% SOC when he inserted 85% SOC battery. His system are

- bq27531-g1 + bq24193
- Power supply of Charger and fuel gauge get from AC adaptor. (Application is cradle.) they usually working and waiting for insert battery pack.
- When he insert battery which charged 80% SOC, fuel gauge report SOC = 100%.

1.  I guess this phenomenon cause due to the condition of Initial OCV. It depend on the status when gauge measure initial OCV after POR. But do you have idea the reason why this phenomenon is happened?

2.  His system would like to detect fully charge when he insert battery which SOC is 100%. I guess his system (host) should check the charging current is under terminate current and battery voltage is above 4.2V. But do you have idea which he detect fully charge condition just after insert 100% SOC battery?

Regards,
Nagata.

  • Hello Nagata-san,

    1. It is due to initial OCV. If no current is flowing, make sure the chemID is appropriate.

    2. Check the TRM, it tells you conditions for 100% RSOC. Make sure IT Enable is set.

For future questions since there's correspondence on bq27531, try to search on existing e2e threads first prior to asking questions.

    Thank you!
