BQ51013B: FOD Calibration/Tuning Tool Killing Windows 10

Part Number: BQ51013B

Hello,

I have a design using the BQ51013B receiver in a small system, and after getting the system up and running I wanted to evaluate the FOD tool to see if it would be useful.

I have a Windows 10, 64-bit HP desktop.  On two separate occasions after attempting to install this program the JAVA install portion hung up for a while, then completed successfully.  On restart however the OS can not be found, the system looks as if the C drive has been wiped away, it is no longer visible to the boot kernel from what we can tell. Our IT expert had to do a complete re-image and restore, none of the internal restore points or recovery/repair options were successful, nor were command prompt attempts to restore the system

We are trying to gather logs and messages, but we believe there is an error in the JAVA updater in this program, causing MAJOR system failure. Can anyone speak to whether this is a known issue, and if so how we mitigate the effects?

Thanks,

Adam

  • Hi Adam,

I've just installed the FOD tool seen in the BQ51013B product folder and I am not seeing the same issue. Did you have Java installed prior to running the setup file? Can you confirm that you did infact download it from the ti.com site? Does this occur on multiple systems?

Looking forward to any information that you can gather.

  • Hi Anthony,

Java was installed prior to installing this program, but the program did update it, that was what I meant by the JAVA install portion, it was an update.

We have not attempted the installation on multiple machines, the effort required to get the one system back to operation has been....significant so we didn't want to break other systems without understanding what was happening but we did want to verify that it was this program that is breaking the machine which is why we attempted to re-install it after bringing it back the first time.

I did download the program from the TI website, direct from the Design and Development tab for the part.  We have tried to gather logs but in the process of recovery we've lost them both times so I don't have any detailed technical information in that regard.  Is there other information I can provide that might be helpful?

    Thanks,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

Thanks for addressing my concerns. I will try to reach out to the relevant contacts to see if this has been an issue before.Would you be able to share what version of Java was installed prior and if you were running anything else at the time of install? I understand there was an update portion.

Of course, any information that you're able to provide would be helpful but we will try and see what we can do about this issue.

  • Hi Anthony,

I really appreciate the follow-up. Running a JAVA version check through my command prompt we are at version 1.8.0_265. Here is a snip from the result.  We are getting beyond my knowledge level for what to check for, so if this isn't what you wanted just let me know and I'll get the relevant information, we are curious as to what happened as well and if this is the first time you've heard of this happening. The first time the install happened several programs were running in the background, the second attempt there was nothing else running except this install attempt and windows services.

    Thanks,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

Thanks for the information. I'll see if this information is the main concern. I've installed it to my personal system and have ran the same command as you. The difference at the moment is that you are using the OpenJDK version.

  • Hi Adam,

Unfortunately, I cannot recreate the issue on my end. Are there any updates?
