TPS23882: SRAM Code Load Error

Hi,

I'd like to ask you about SRAM code load error. It happens on return result of tps_UpdateSRAMCode() after initialization has been done like attached code. The firmware version is 0x00 after SRAM update has been done, and also it is same version before SRAM update. The attached code is based on TPS23882 PoE MSP430 reference code for basic applications(SLVC790.zip). Please let me know how to fix it.

Hi Jefferey,

Looks like the code is correct so I am suspecting the hardware. Can you first try running your SW on the TPS23882EVM to see if works correctly? If so, then we will know it could be an issue with your hardware rather than the software.

Hi Darwin,

Thanks for your support. My customer has not the TPS23882EVM. So they can not check it on EVM. They tried to check the hardware configurations, but they didn't find any hardware issues. Also, there is no problem to get access the register of this chip. Please let me know the hardware or software check points.

Hi Jeffrey,

Looking at the schematic, I only see that the unused GATE should be open when not used.

Do you have a waveform of VPWR and VDD and RESET? Per startup requirement, RESET should stay LOW until VPWR reaches its UVLO. Can you help confirm? Thanks!

Hi Darwin,

The unused GATE pin's connection had already changed to the floating. Please refer to the attached file below.

My customer said that there was no start fault even though startup requirement was not met. So they tested manually to keep low RESET, but there was a same issue, and was not improved. Please let me know how to fix it.

Hi Jeff, even if the IC shows no fault condition, the IC could be started up to a permanent non-functioning state if start up doesn't follow proper sequence. Can customer replace the IC and try again with manually keeping RESET LOW while VPWR ramps up?

Hi Darwin,

My customer said that the root cause of this issue seems like the version difference of SRAM code. The SRAM code version of SLVC790 is V2.0. So they downloaded a latest SRAM code of V5.0, and this issue has been cleared and also firmware version has been read correctly. Is it correct? Please confirm on this root cause.
