BQ4050EVM-561: BQ4050 current issue

Hi

I utilize BQ4050 evaluation module to monitor battery pack.This BQ4050 evaluation module interfaced with EV2400 to communicate with PC.While I run Bq studion I don't get the actual current consumption at BQ4050 evaluation module for charging and discharging.

When I applied battery charger 8A,I saw that current displayed +0.5A on bqstudio.

When I applied DC load to discharge 2A,I saw that current displayed -1mA on bqstudio.

Please help on this problem.

    Hello Nazri,

    I would recommend following the EVM users guide to perform calibration on the gauge and to make sure all the connections are correct, because the error is so large it is most likely some of the connectors are not placed correctly.

    Hi Keller

    Refering to documention,I have queries as below:

    1) Can I change the current source to other value.I have power charger 12v/6A.So can I change current source to 6A?

    2)Referring to schematic below, 1N and Pack- has a resistor 0.0a1 ohm in between.Is that apply current source between 1N and Pack- ?

    Hello Nazri,

    You can use any constant current supply that is stable for calibration.

    The resistor is the sense resistor used for current calculations, you are correct.

    Hi Wyatt

    Is that needs to apply current source and probe at 1N and Pack-?.As you seen the current  resistor 0.001 ohm in between them is very small.Is this correct method?

    Hello Nazri,

    Yes you can apply a current directly across the sense resistor for calibration, that is the best method for calibration. Our coulomb counting ADC is designed to read the small voltages across the sense resistor.

    Hi Wyatt

    I have applied current source 1 A and calibrated.After that I run discharged 4A and charged 6A.As seen on graph below,the result is ok for discharging 4A but it's not ok for charging 6A.It shows that the plot going up for 6A in a short period and drop back to low value.Please advise.

    Hello Nazri,

    It looks like the gauge is reporting the correct current, you're saying the gauge drops back to 0A even though there is a charge current?

    I would check your hardware connections if thats the case, the only way that the gauge will read out 0A is if there's no voltage across the sense resistor (if it's shorted) or if the protections enabled and stops any charge, but you should see that on your supply.
