BQ21061: Capacitor on VDD pin

Hello community,

I have a question regarding the BQ21061 charger IC: Is the 2.2uF capacitor on the VDD pin strictly needed if the VDD pin is not used in an application or can the capacitor be removed (or a smaller value be chosen)?

Are there any negative effects expected when the capacitor is removed?

Hello,

The capacitor on VDD is required even if no load will be placed on the VDD pin because it is the internal digital supply.

Hello Sharafadeen Raheem,

thanks for your reply. Would it be possible to reduce the value of the capacitor on the VDD pin to 1uF in that case?
VIO is supplied externally with 1.8V, VDD is not used externally.

Hello,

The recommended value is 4.7uF with the minimum being 2.2uF. This is the same even if VDD is not connected to VIO
