BQ4050: How to decrease the default 1 second time of System Present Detection?

System Present

PRES is sampled four times per second, and if PRES is high for 4 samples (one second), the
OperationStatus[PRES] flag is cleared. If PRES is low for 4 samples (one second), the OperationStatus
[PRES] flag is set, indicating the system is present (the battery is inserted). If the [NR] bit is set, the PRES
input is ignored and can be left floating.

I wish to decrease the 1s total sampling period to get my device started quicker. Is BQ4050 able?

Hello Yevhen,

There is not a way to increase the sampling time of this pin, it will always take 4 samples (once every 250ms) to confirm a reading.

My task is to start from battery with button press much faster than 1s.

Hello Yevhen,

Are you inserting the battery and wanting the gauge to start faster? Or are you trying to use it for a different function?

My board is assembled with a battery pack controlled by BQ4050.

One of the kinds to start the device is a user button pressing.

I could miss in my explanation (I'm a SW developer but not HW one), the button pressing switching on pull-down resistor so BQ4050 can do 4 samples to supply a system. 1 sec is too long.

Is in general this explanation sufficient?

Hello Yevhen,

If the gauge is in shutdown, the bat+ and pack+ should be temporarily connected together to immediately wake up the gauge.

Thanks for the tip.

The battery is assembled by a battery manufacturer the way that Bat+ is not accessible. A battery pack connector provides only Pack+ and Pack- to my board.

Could any other gause gauge controller be used with adjustable time between samples etc.?

I understand now, you don't have access to all the pins.

Each gauge has many different features, for the multicell gauges I believe all of them have the 1 second delay for the PRES pin.
