BQ25790: About LifePO4 Charger

Part Number: BQ25790
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24750, BQ25713

Hi,

Customers are looking for products that meet the following requirements:

・Battery ; LifePo4
・Cell ; 2~4cell , (2~4S2P)
・Vin ; 19V
・Charge current; ≒4~5A
・Control ; Host control (I2C,SMBus)
・Temp control ; JEITA compliant

I chose the following products from TI products.

BQ25790/2:https://www.tij.co.jp/product/jp/BQ25790

BQ24750:https://www.tij.co.jp/product/jp/BQ24750

1.Do these two products support LifePO4 charging?
2.Could you introduce a TI recommended product that meets the required specifications?

Best regards,
Yusuke

  • Hi Yusuke-san,

BQ24750 is standalone not host control.  TI does not have a charger for those specs and with default VBATREG=3.6V for LiFePO4.  However, with the BQ25790/2 you can disable charging at startup, reduce the charge voltage to 3.6V and then start charge.  From 19V down to 3.6V, the BQ25790/2 efficiency suffers a bit so, with its integrated FETs, it will get hot and likely be thermally limited below 5A.  You might consider the BQ25713 with external FETs to help distribute the heat.

    Regards,
