BQ24773: BQ24773 Input current setting and monitoring parameter

Part Number: BQ24773

Hello TI,

We are working on BQ24773 battery charging IC for 5Ah Lithium ion battery

we are confused about ILIM setting, if anyone have brief description of it please share share us for system configuration or help us to input current configuration setting

1. We have 5V/5A wall adaptor for the system

2. System requires 2.5A  current

3. Set battery charging current is 1A

Issues is when system require more than 1A load current, battery charging stop and only system is working on it

we are expecting when battery capacity is below or above the 80% of total battery capacity then also it need to charge battery without any issues, please help us how to resolve the issues

Please explain the ILIM pin functionality and use case or related document for configure system correctly

What is the Output voltage range of following,

1. IADP

2. IBAT

3. PMON

4. PROCHOT

Thanks,

Rahul

  • Hi Rahul,

The lower value between the ILIM pin voltage and the InputCurrent() register sets the input current limit. You also have the option of ignoring the ILIM pin and using only the InputCurrent() register to set the input current limit, as shown below:

The BQ24773 prioritizes the system load over charging the battery. Therefore, if you want to provide 2.5 A to the system while charging the battery with 1 A, then the input current limit must be set high enough to allow this.

The IADP, IBAT, and PMON output voltages are clamped below 3.3 V. The /PROCHOT voltage depends on the pull-up rail that you use. A 3.3 V pull-up rail is typical. Note that the maximum recommended voltage for /PROCHOT is 5.3 V.

    Best regards,

    Angelo
