TPS56121: Boot resistor in application question

Part Number: TPS56121

Hi team,

Our customer want a confirm as below, could you help to confirm?

The boot resistor are mentioned 2 times In the TPS56121 datasheet 2016 revision.

1

a BOOT resistor with a value between 5 Ω to 15 Ω may be placed in series with the BOOT capacitor to slow down turn-on of the high-side FET

Placing a BOOT resistor with a value between 5 Ω and 15 Ω in series with the BOOT capacitor slows down the
turn-on of the high-side FET and can help to reduce the peak ringing at the switching node as well.

In the datasheet, the neccessary of using boot resistor is "may be", "as well". That's the understanding from power electronics designers.

It is known that the values of the boot resistor is selected depending on the specific application conditons, such as input and output voltage, ouput current, PCB layout, etc.

The requested design confirmation is that,

Is the boot resistor as 5 Ω to 15 Ω for TPS56121 is MUST?

If design is 0Ω and 100nF in series, is that OK? (be sure that we had done all voltage stress testing under worst cases and the tested values were all less than Abs value)
