LM317: -40℃ temperature using TO-263 package

Hi, expert,

My customer is using LM317 TO-263 package in solar inverter, but in their new application, their product may work under -20℃. Do we have a similar part support this negative temperature range using TO-263 package? If not, can LM317 normally work under -20℃? We have noticed the storage temperature is -65℃, so would it be any risk to work at -20℃？Thanks.

    Chen,

    The LM317 is only specified to operate from a junction temperature of 0 to 125 C. We do have the LM317A which is rated from -40 to 125 C, however is is not available in the TO-263 package. 

    Can you clarify the application details here? Could a device like the LM1086 work for your customer's application? This is in the same package as the LM317 and is rated from -40 to 125 C.
