BQ76940: I2C

Part Number: BQ76940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350-R1

I am considering a configuration in which an external microcomputer is connected in parallel to the I2C line of BQ76940 and BQ78350-R1 to access AFE.
Is the BQ78350-R1 not compatible with external interrupts to the corresponding I2C line?
If you have any other points to note, please give us some advice.

Best regards,
Kagawa

  • Hi Kagawa-san,

Unfortunately, I do not think this configuration would be able to work well. The BQ78350-R1 firmware will communicate frequently with the BQ76940, so an external microcontroller might interfere when important transactions need to take place. The BQ76940 ALERT pin sends an interrupt to the BQ78350-R1 every time new voltage and current measurements are available or when a protection has been triggered. I am not sure what will happen if the ALERT pin goes high while the I2C is being used by an external microcontroller.

    Best regards,

    Matt
