Dropout linear regulator TPS76901

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TL783, TPS54160, TPS40210

Dear all,

I would use the TPS 7690, or some other linear regulator, to clean a  voltage of 60V is it possible? If yes how?

regards

David

  • No, 60V is above the 13.5V maximum voltage rating of the TPS76901.

The linear regulator parametric search, located at power.ti.com, lists one linear regulator with 60V capability--the TL783.

What is your output voltage and current desired?  Keep in mind, that at 60V, the power dissipated in the linear regulator will be quite high.  Some customers use a switching power supply, such as the TPS54160, to step down the 60V to a reasonable level and then use an LDO to clean it up more.

  • I need a very low current aroun 10mA  what i would do is put the linear at the output of TPS40210 in order to reduce as much as possible the voltage ripple.

    regards

    David

  • Hi David,

Most engineers use linear regulators to clean up switching noise.  It is however also a good idea to also add some sort of LC filter at the input to the linear regulator if ripple and noise is a critical concern.  My last suggestion is to contact your TI Field Application Engineer who can get you samples of our newest LDO (which will release in 3 weeks) -this new LDO can handle 100V on the input and has a max current output of 50mA.
