TL1431-EP: Transient current rating into anode/cathode terminals?

Part Number: TL1431-EP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TL1431

Hello, do you have transient current ratings for this device?

We are using this device as a current sink (see TL1431 non-EP datasheet figure 37). In our application we expect transients to be applied thru the BJT to the TL1431 cathode. Transients will be in the order of 50us, both into and out of the cathode.

Thanks.

  • We do not transient current ratings for this device. Just make sure the current into the TL1431 does not violate its recommended maximum IKA or Tj.

  • I see the device is ESD rated. Perhaps you have test data (current) for ESD testing?

I do see IKA listed as "Continuous cathode current, IKA". We are far from the continuous rating during normal operation, but exceed it during transients as described before. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that Tj is the limiting factor here. What about transient thermal curves? That would allow us to calculate transient power and from there transient current.

  • We do not have separate curves or data to support operating this device outside of the EC table specifications. It will be difficult for me to recommend using this device outside of the recommended operating conditions even if it is momentarily.
