TPS2543: Current Limiting Function

Part Number: TPS2543

Hello team,

My customer has questions about TPS2543 of current limiting function.

Can your team answer the below questions?

  1. By setting CLT1 shown in Table 3 to Hi and CLT2 to 3 to Lo, the DCP_Shorted mode is set, can TPS2543 switch the current limit value with the ILIM_SEL pin?
  2. When the EN terminal and CLT1 terminal are Hi and the IN-OUT is ON, is backflow prevented when an external voltage is applied to OUT?
  3. According to the calculation formula (data sheet P31), the current limiting function of this IC can be limited with a variation of less than ± 10% in the current limit of 500mA to 1.5A. Is this recognition correct?

Best regards,

Shotaro

  • Hi Shotaro,

    1. You are correct, if CTL1-3 = 100, the current limit can be selected through ILIM_SEL. Please note that DCP_shorted has its own current limit, as set by the BC1.2 spec, of 1.5A.

    2. Because of the BC1.2 spec, OUT will always have 5V on it. There should not be any extra voltage applied to OUT.  The TPS2543 does not have reverse current protection.

    3. Depending on what charging scheme you are using, the TPS2543 has an adjustable current-limit up to 3 A down to 500mA.

    Thanks,

    Emma

  • Hello Emma,

    Thank you for supporting!

If TPS2543 is used only with the current limiting function, is it OK D + / D- IN and D + / D- OUT remain open? or need pull-down / pull-up?

    Best regards,

    Shotaro

  • Hi Shotaro-san,

Yes you may leave the D+/D- lines open.

    Regards,

    Emma
