BQ78350: ideal diode function

Part Number: BQ78350
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76952, BQ40Z80

Hi team,

My customer is using BQ78350 and 76930 combo. There’s an ideal diode function where even if the software is supposed to disable charging, it will still enable the charge FET if it sense a discharging current. It does this because it assumes the charge and discharge FETs are in series. They have separate path in their application and this could eventually end up not protecting the battery in some cases. Is there a way to disable that feature?

Thank you in advance for your support!

Errol

  • Hi Errol,

Unfortunately this feature cannot be disabled. The Bq78350 expects the FETs to be configured in series.

Newer devices like the BQ76952 and BQ40Z80 have a parallel FET mode that disables this feature.

    Regards,

    Matt
